A customer asked

I have been considering buying myself a new mattress for sometime and, although delighted to find so much information on your website, it has confirmed my feeling that none of the mattresses in the shops were really as great as they seemed. Trying out a mattress for 5 mins didn't help as they all felt heavenly!

I am 5' 3" and 10.5 stone, sleep on my side and have started to wake with hip pain even with a mattress topper. My partner is 5' 6" and about 13.5 stone and has restless legs. He finds my mattress uncomfortable and wakes with backache. I can't really afford more than £500 and am looking for something that will last, so preferably two sided. Both my partner and I are currently losing weight and have managed half a stone so far, hopefully gettIng down to 9.5 stone and 11 stone, although there is no guarantee we will manage it!

Which of your mattreses would you recommend and would there be difficulty delivering it as my bedroom is in a loft conversion, the stairs up to it are a good width with a high stairwell. Many thanks

Hi Lucinda,

Thanks for your question.

Given your budget this realistically narrows it down to our Origins range of mattresses; This range are traditional pocket sprung mattresses constructed with synthetic fillings.

There are always 2 elements to any pocket sprung mattress; You have the spring tension, which is determined solely by your body weight as this is what provides support. You then have the fillings that sit atop the springs and these are also referred to as the comfort layers as this is what you are in direct contact with.

At your body weights a Medium spring tension will cover you both comfortably;

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

You haven't disclosed what size you are looking at but our Zip and Link mattresses start from King Size upwards. These are ideal where access to the property is restricted, where you might struggle to flip a one piece mattress or one user tends to disturb the other.

I'd recommend having a look at our Origins Pocket 1500 mattress; This comes with the medium spring tension as standard and then has a medium upholstery providing a slight sink into the top layer but not too much.

The only concern here is that this model sits quite a bit out of your budget at £715.00. It might be worth you having a look in our Outlet section. These are items that have been produced and used under our 60 day love it or return it guarantee. They are subsequently graded and discounted accordingly;

Grade Discount Description
B 20% Will have been used by a customer and returned under the 60 night love it or return it guarantee, it may have a few marks from transit and courier handling.
C 40% Will have been used by a customer and returned under the 60 night love it or return it guarantee, it will have quite a few marks and could even have a small tear, nothing detrimental to the life or use of the mattress.

The Outlet is regularly updated so it might be worth keeping a check on it to see if something suitable comes up.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don't hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419. Our office is open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm.

Kind Regards, Lee.
