Slatted bed and memory foam mattress causing agony

A customer asked

Hi
Just bought a new slatted bed and using the same memory foam mattress that we used on top of a sprung base devan. I'm now waking up in agony having hardly slept due to pain from my neck to my back. I have cervical spondylosis and wasn't in anywhere near as much pain with the old base. I feel the new base is far too hard but my husband is 15 stone and i'm 10.5 so i'm worred a soft mattress would be no good for him. I've thought about a latex sprung mattress but i don't want to shell out a fortune on a mattress that might be worse as i've done this several times in the past. Budget up to £600.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Wendy,

The base you have purchased will be firming up the overall feel of your memory foam mattress. The only way around this would be to revert to a sprung base or change the mattress style. Although a topper may be useful for a short amount of time, this over a longer period will settle into the memory foam and cause the same issues.

At the body weights, you have provided your husband would be fine on a medium sprung mattress with a soft comfort layer. You would also be a medium spring tension.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

If you are both looking for a softer comfort layer, I would advise taking a look at the Artisan Luxury This in a medium spring tension would give you the softer comfort layer you are looking for. You would need to take into account that the base will firm this up slightly, but it will still give you a soft supported mattress.

I hope this helps, if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419
