A customer asked

Hello,Please could you advise on the best mattress for a super king slatted sprung base? We have had our current mattress for 3 years ( accolade luxx 1500) but the settlement in it has caused it to become very uncomfortable to sleep and given me a bad back from laying awkwardly in 'the trough'! (The company concerned won't change it as it's just within tolerance level) I weigh 10 stone and my husband weighs 14, we both like a medium-firm feel mattress. We both sleep in multiple positions during the night. Your advise would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for your enquiry.

We are sorry to hear of the issues you are experiencing with your current mattress. With your particular body weights, we would suggest that you ought to be looking at a medium spring tension.

Please view the Origins Pocket 1500, which has a standard medium tension spring unit together with layers of man-made upholstery providing an overall medium feel. Alternatively, if you prefer natural fibres in the upholstery, you should view the Artisan Naturals and Artisan Bespoke 004. Both these mattresses can have the spring tension selected to suit as described above, and have layers of natural upholstery, again providing an overall medium feel. The Naturals has 85% natural upholstery and the 004 has 100%.

Artisan Naturals

All of these mattresses can be used on your slatted base provided that you place a barrier, usually in the form of thin (3-5mm) MDF over the slats. This will provide the mattress with a uniform surface upon which to sit and prevent ridging occurring as a result of the mattress dipping into the gaps between the slats. This will only slightly alter the springiness of the base. It may be worth doing this now and seeing if it has an effect on your current mattress instead of opting for an immediate replacement.

We trust that the above is of help to you, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our advisors.

Kind Regards.
