Thanks Amy

You body weight chart and bed firmness

In a double bed -king size if you have two people with individual weights 13st and 15st I assume that the firmness is only decided by the heaviest person ie for 15stone it would be firmness medium.

However the 15st person has back problems (not helped by sleeping on a medium -but good quality- slumberland mattress which is 11yrs old ,so well past its throw away date.)

In this situation are we better to go for a firm mattress ie like the Blenheim we saw locally or your equivalent

You are the only company that has actually shown us a chart to determine mattress firmness -many many thanks
as there are so very many beds available these days

Hi Pauline,

Thank you for getting back in touch with your information. The advice used to be that for any back problems you need a firm mattress but that is no longer the case. You do springs-with-pocket-springs/" class="" >need the correct spring tension for your body weight to give you the correct level of support and both of you require a medium spring. The firmness of the springs is determined by both of you. If there was a bigger difference between your body weights which meant one of you needed a different spring tension we would recommend a dual spring tension mattress. This would have one half of the mattress with a medium spring tension and the other half would have either soft or firm accordingly. This is only available in King Size and above in our Artisan range.

The upholstery layers should be determined by your comfort preferences and your sleeping habits. We would not recommend a firm mattress if you sleep on your side as this can cause pressure pains in your shoulders hips and knees. On the other hand, we would not recommend anything too soft for sleeping on your front or back as this can cause your back to overarch or misalign. If one of you is a side sleeper and the other sleeps on there back then a medium in the comfort layers is a good compromise. If a firm mattress is your preference and neither of you sleeps on your side then the Artisan Bespoke would be an ideal mattress for you.

I hope this help and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss the suitability of any of our mattresses please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards
Michaela
