Unrolling a boxed mattress that doesn't return to size?

I took the rolled mattress out of the box. It is supposed to be queen size but it doesn’t look wide enough. Will it expand in both directions once unrolled? I’m afraid to unroll it if it is the wrong size I will never be able to get it back in the box!

Hi Shiela,

Thanks for getting in touch with us about your boxed rolled mattress. Sorry to hear its not the right size, however, we don't sell boxed or rolled mattresses. Without knowing which mattress company you have bought it from it's hard to advise of who to get in touch with if your queen sized mattress has not fully expanded.

What's wrong with rolled mattresses?

We don't advocate choosing rolled mattresses as crushing and rolling a mattress actually starts to damage and degrade the materials and springs placed within it. Quality mattresses are not meant to be reduced to a fraction of their size via rolling. If you think about it, a mattress is made to offer both support and comfort to a sleeper.

By crushing and rolling it entirely you’re compromising on these features as only softer basic support fibres will allow themselves to be compacted in this way.

When you see the machines that crush them you would probably be quite shocked too! Viewing as your mattress gets sandwiched and forced into a plastic bag. All of our models are hand made and we don’t entertain crushing them. Especially when we have a 2 man delivery service which negates the need to ‘drop and run’ when it comes to delivery.

You can read more on what to look for when avoiding a rolled mattress here.

Sometimes rolled mattresses can take upto 2 days to fully reform so we would wait until then. There are some size guides below to let you check what size your new mattress should be.

After 2 days if it's the wrong size still we would advise you get in touch with whichever boxed rolled mattress company you bought it from ie Casper, Emma, Eve etc. They should be able to advise.

There's also a guide here for choosing a new mattress in case you end up sending the defective bed back.
