Hi there, we have been looking for a medium tension mattress for a couple of months now. Our super king mattress is about 10years old and I have been getting sleepless nights cause of aches and pains. The mattress seems very firm now.
My husband is 105kgs and I am 64kgs looking for a medium tension, mattress/">pocket sprung mattress. We both don’t like memory foam.

We liked the feel on the Artisan viscount mattress by staples in Bensons for beds for a very good tempting deal which comprises of headboard and base divan in super king. We haven’t heard of the company and not quite sure because it’s Bensons beds.

Thanks for your comment asking to compare Bensons for Beds with Hypnos mattresses. You're right to be doing your research at this stage rather than jumping straight in. Al the hard work and preparation you put in will pay off by you choosing the very best mattress for your budget.

When choosing a new mattress you need to know three key things:

1. Pocket Spring type, number and wire gauge
2. The grams per square meter of all upholstery on top of this spring unit
3. Mattress details such as if its 2 sided or hand side stitched.

To clear up spring tensions ie soft, medium or firm are related to your bodyweight and not how the mattress will feel.

It often confuses customers as the real feel of the mattress comes from the comfort laters above. Which is why you need to know exactly what fillings are present above any support or mattress spring unit.

 

Artisan Viscount Bed Reviewed:

Sadly Bensons for Beds give very little detail on this model. They list it as being tailored specifically for you but this is just the spring tension ie you can choose between two. We offer 3 spring gauges as do Vispring and Savoir so the best is truy tailored for your bodyweight. Don't be confused that the comfort feel will change with the Viscount mattress as this is fixed.

It contains 3400 springs but not more detail is given other than they are calico. Given the number is over 2000 it must contain dual layers and probably micro springs which we refuse to use. More on why they are a terrible waste of money and pretty much useless here.

In terms of mattress fibres, it lists horsehair, lambswool and mohair but no details on how much or if they are blended. Making it impossible to compare. It is listed as a two sided mattress but the graphic depicts a one sided model. So we would definitely ask Bensons to confirm this. You should always opt for a 2 sided bed wherever possible they last far longer and can be turned and rotated to even out settlement.

 

Hypnos Deluxe Bed Review:

This Hypnos model is a mix of synthetic and natural fibres but sadly is a one-sided model.

Again no spring tensions are given or details on the GSM of the fibres contained within. One point to note is the recycled 'grey' fibre on the very base of the mattress. At this price point, the fibres should all be predominantly natural. By the looks of it, this mattress will offer a medium-firm feel.
