We have an Otty Pure Hybrid, still in trial period. My husband finds it perfect, I find it too hard, would a mattress topper help with this and if so what would you recommend?

Hi Caroline,

Many thanks for your question about softening an Otty mattress. It can be really frustrating when you buy a new mattress but find it too firm. It really depends on how uncomfortable you're finding it. New mattresses will take around 4 weeks to get used to but it's worth while giving it a proper trial.

A mattress topper would provide a softer top layer to this mattress. Mattress toppers can only ever soften a mattress and never firm one up.

However, with one sided foam beds like the Otty Hybrid, a topper can help address the drawback that they are one sided. One sided mattresses have a tendency to settle far sooner than two sided equivalents as you can't turn them to even out settlement. We always recommend adding s removable topper to try and improve the shorter lifespan of these boxed foam one sided models.

Alternatively if after the 4 or so weeks it still feels too hard it maybe that the support is too firm for your bodyweight in which case a topper won't help you at all. Mattress Supports, such as pocket springs, should always be based on your bodyweight so if you have the wrong support for your weight the bed will never be comfortable.

Alternative to the Otty Hybrid Mattress:

If you want to have a look at potential alternative mattresses to the Otty Hybrid, that are two sided and can be turned then look at our Origins Pocket 1500 mattress.

Origins Pocket 1500 Mattress
1: 300GSM WOOL
2: 750GSM VERY SOFT POLYESTER
3: 500GSM POLYESTER PAD
4: ONE INCH FOAM INSULATOR LAYER
5: 1500 SPUN BOND POCKET SPRINGS
TOTAL: 1550GSM
DEPTH 30-33CM

We hope that helps and gives you further mattress buying guidance. If you have any more mattress related questions please get back in touch on info@localhost or 0161 437 4419.

Sleep well
