Hi Richard,

Many thanks for getting in touch to ask about a comparative mattress to the Millbrook Barlette mattress. Unfortunately, that mattress has been discontinued so there's little to no information available online. I've had a look through our mattress archives to find some detail to help us provide a mattress comparison.

Millbrook Barlette Mattress Specifications

  • Mattress includes silk, cashmere and pashmina
  • Mattress includes three rows of side hand-stitching
  • Pocketed springs 2000 spring count
  • Medium feel

Mattress feel & Upholstery

Looking at the specifications it's really hard to be specific with an exact comparison. This is because Millbrook Beds doesn't disclose the GSM (grams per square meter) of their mattress fibres. 'Includes' is a really woolly description and doesn't give us a huge amount to go off. We have a really detailed article here on why GSM is essential when comparing and choosing a new mattress.

However, we know this is a medium feel mattress in the comfort layer which allows us to shortlist other medium feel mattresses. The hand side stitching is an indicator of a quality mattress. Hand side stitching is a real skill that takes a lot of time to do. It provides a more robust mattress side panel, prevents bulging and ensures edge to edge support in a mattress as the springs are hand-tied to the side panel.

Milbrook Mattress Springs Explained:

Whilst Milbrook gives the spring quantity they don't divulge what their pocket spring gauge or tension is. This is vital when picking anew mattress and comparing. Spring tensions are based on your body weight and the tension should always be picked on this and not how you want the mattress to feel.

Luckily, we hand made each of our mattresses with a tailored spring tension based in our body weight. So we know each mattress has the ideal support you may need. Please have a look below to establish which spring tension you and your partner may need in your new mattress.

Spring Tension Wire diameter (Gauge) Weight Range
Soft 1.2mm Bespoke Tension (Please Call)
Medium 1.4mm Upto 16 stone
Firm 1.6mm 16 stone plus
Extra Firm / Orthopaedic 1.9mm 20 stone plus

Millbrook also doesn't disclose if its a Calcio encased pocket spring (ie super high end) or the entry level spunbond synthetic pocket spring. The difference is between a solid entry level mattress and then the start of higher-end luxury mattresses. So this detail is important to consider.

Millbrook Mattress Comparisons:

For a medium feel natural fibre mattress then have a look at our Artisan Bespoke 004. It features a calico encased vanadium coated pocket spring unit. It contains a huge 3600GSM of 100% natural fibre fillings and is two-sided. We recommend you turn your mattress every month to even out initial settlement and keep your mattress feeling like new for as long as possible. We always advocate choosing a 2 sided mattress over a no turn model which have a far shorter shelf life.
