Hi Bryan,

Thanks for your question about mattress sales and whether or not we do black friday.

The quick answer is no we don't have sales or Black Friday offers on our beds.

Why we don't have a Black Friday sale

You may want to read this detailed expose of mattress and furniture sales here which exposes some of the shady practices bed retailers use to hyperinflate mattress prices before sales. Scandalous we know.

Usually, mattress sales use the following tactics:

  • Hyper inflating the RRP of the mattress sometimes just days before slashing this price in half
  • Overpricing models so that when they are reduced they seem like good value - however, the mattress was never worth the RRP
  • Hiding what's inside the mattresses so you have no idea if its a good deal other than the discount amount
  • Changing the name of sale mattresses so you can't find them elsewhere to compare
  • Selling ex display models that have been bounced around on by hundreds of shoppers

Basically, you need to make sure that the original mattress price was true based on the quality and contents of the mattress. See below for a handy guide.

How much to spend on a double mattress? What can I expect for my money?
Under £500 Will not get you much at best a 13.5 gauge open coil/cage sprung with a thin polyester layer or a solid foam mattress.
£500 Entry level spunbond springs with some form of synthetic upholstery. Usually one sided mattresses.
£750 The beginnings of a basic pocket springs unit with 800 – 1000 count. No substantial amount of filling other than foams and synthetic materials. Two sided models.
£1000 Should get you away from most low ranges and into the mid-range pocket spring models.
£1250 Should get you a decent pocket sprung mattress with some Natural Fibre content.
£1500 Should get you many manufacturers mid-range models with Natural Fibres
£1500-£2000 Should get you a Hand Made primarily Natural Fibre Quality Mattress
£2000+ You should expect 100% Natural Fibres and Traditional Hand Made Construction Method.
£5000+ A Bespoke Hand Made Sleep System, High-end Spring Units & Featuring the Worlds Most Luxurious Natural Fibres.

Discount Mattresses:

We don't have sales as we find the whole practice quite murky and confusing for consumers. We hand make each of our mattresses for each client so don't hold stock sat gathering dust in a warehouse. We don't like the illusion that retailers give of selling mattresses at a cost too good to be true.

Remember that every retailer will need to make some profit even on a sale model. So if the deal feels too good to be true it usually is and the mattress is only worth the sale price.

We do have a clearance section where we sell mattresses that have been returned under our love it or return it guarantee. A true bargain as you can see the previous RRP, see the entire contents of the mattress to compare and also still use our free advice service. We prefer to be totally transparent this way.

We offer 20% or 40% off our clearance returned mattresses.

How to choose a new mattress:

The below infographic may help you cut through some of the other retailer tricks to get you to part with your cash. This graphic can help you no matter where you are shopping for a new mattress from.

You can also use our online Free Mattress Compare tool to compare hundreds of retail models in one place here.

All the best John & Ryan
