Hi, we recently tried a vispring fursdon in John Lewis but we’re told by the salesman that it wouldn’t work with the base we’d just ordered from silent night as it was a hard top and something about warranty not being valid.
After taking the mattress quiz on your site it recommended the artisan bespoke 04.
Would you recommend a different base for this mattress too?
We didn’t think the base would make such a difference like this and are now wondering if we should try and cancel the order.

Hi Ricky,

Thank you for your question. There are companies that insist that you purchase their base at the time of purchasing a mattress or the warranty will be nullified. We don't, we always say to get the base you like the look of as everything else can be tweaked.

Our Artisan range of mattresses, like the Vispring mattresses, are designed for a pocket sprung base that cushions the mattress and you would get the true described feel on this base. However, you can put them on a platform or slatted base but it will firm up the internal support of the mattress slightly.

Our closest comparable mattress to the Vispring Fursden at John Lewis is the Artisan Bespoke which has a firmer feel in the 100% natural fibre upholstery layers and is more suitable for those that sleep on their front or back. Sinking in too much in these sleep positions can cause lower back pain. The Artisan Bespoke 004 has a true medium feel in the 100% natural fibres which have cushioning in the top layers and are more supportive underneath. This makes it an ideal mattress for combination and side sleepers who prefer a more supportive feel as it is not too soft for front and back sleepers but it is not too firm for side sleepers. The comparable model in the John Lewis Vispring range is the Maristow. Your comfort preferences should also be taken into account when choosing a new mattress.

The spring tension of the mattress should be determined by your body weight and height to give you the correct level of support.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

When you try a mattress in a showroom you will not get a true representation of how the mattress will feel as many potential customers will already have softened the upholstery layers. A new mattress will always feel firmer as the upholstery layers are compacted during manufacturing and it takes you sleeping and moving around on the mattress to soften them. Trying a mattress for a few minutes is not long enough to determine if the mattress is suitable. All customers of a standard-size mattress are covered under our 60-day love it or return it guarantee. We do ask that you use a mattress protector and give the mattress a good month or so as it can take 4 to 6 weeks for your body to adjust to the new mattress. If after this time you are not getting along with the mattress you can either send it back for a full refund or we can do a one-time exchange to another mattress depending on how you found the first one. Please note that bases and headboards are not covered under the 60 day love it or return it guarantee.

I hope this helps and if you would like to discuss your individual needs please do not hesitate to contact our small friendly team on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards
Michaela
