Please advise how best to accommodate both our weights of 18 st and 11 st. We are restricted to a king size as maximum.
Our current bed does not give sufficient separate support and does not have a spring base. It is described as firm and has an integral mattress topper.
Could we purchase a spring base only to see whether the support improved sufficiently?
If we were to purchase a base and mattress together, please advise:
The benefits of a spring base;
The reason for having a mixed medium/firm pocket spring single mattress or having a zipped together medium and firm mattress.
We would prefer a single mattress or the sense of only being on one mattress. We do not want an integral mattress topper. What is the effect of placing a topper on the zipped together mattresses?
If you think you can offer us a solution, what best meets our needs? We have been looking at Vispring sold by John Lewis and the John Lewis range but think you offer greater value for money.

Hi David,

Going off your body weights I would suggest that a split spring tension, firm for you and medium for your partner, would be the best solution.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

Firm is definitely the wrong tension for your partner.

I note that you are restricted on space and that king size is the maximum you can accommodate.

We do offer split tension mattresses in our Artisan range from king size and above in a one piece or a zip and link set.

Zip and links are usually selected due to access issues, but also provide additional reduction in the disturbance felt by one party when the other moves during the night.

A good quality one piece pocket sprung mattress will also provide some reduction, but not perhaps as much as the zip and link. Because the zips are located some 3.5 to 4 cm down from the sleep surface, this means that there is little chance of you feeling those during sleep, although we would always reccommend the use of a mattress protector, which will also offer some additional cover over the zips.

It is possible to purchase a sprung base on it's own without the mattress and the main advantage of this type of base over a platform topped base is that it provides additional give and will tend to slightly soften the overall feel of your mattress.

As far as toppers are concerned, I would normally advise that you sleep on a new mattress for up to 30 days before deciding upon whether a topper is necessary.

Toppers are used to soften the feel of a mattress, you can always soften a mattress but you cannot make one firmer.

As stated, the split tensions are available in our Artisan range only, which are naturally upholstered.

Please view the Artisan Naturals, Artisan Bespoke 004 and Artisan Bespoke, all of which can be selected in either a one piece or zip and link set with the split tension required.

Once you have viewed these products, please call our office for more specific advice as to suitability.

Kind Regards Gary
