Rosie O'C

Hi - I purchased a Habitat slatted bed frame in Euro King Size (Fleur - no long for retail) and when I moved bought a Relyon Mattress, 2000 spring coil. I've previously had a top grade divan bed/mattress with a Relyon mattress it was wonderful but it was ready for replacement after 18 years of use. This current mattress is not as expensive as the previous was one was (relatively) and after 3 months am still waking in the night with my back aching unbearably as the bed is so hard. I've tried walking and jumping on the bed with my girls in an effort to soften it up to no avail. Would a topper help in making the bed soft? I really dread going to bed and wish I hadn't disposed of my previous bed.Hope you can provide some help!Rosie

Hi Rosie,

Thank you for your enquiry.

We are sorry to hear of your current mattress woes.

The first thing to say is that, irrespective of how your mattress feels, you should never jump up and down on it as this will not make it softer and is likely to damage any springs contained therein. Please read this article in respect of mattress care, which we think gives clear guidance for looking after your mattress and extending it's longevity.

Mattress toppers are used to provide an extra comfort layer on mattresses that may feel too firm.

You can always soften the feel of a mattress but you cannot make one firmer with the application of a topper.

We do make some toppers in latex and hybrid foam, which may relieve the feeling of firmness in your current mattress.

As a rule, 1000 springs in a king size mattress are sufficient to provide the right level of support for people of average body weights.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

King size or euro king size with 2000 springs in are likely to be on the firm side and we wonder if when you purchased this, the salesperson took this into account when advising you.

We trust that the above is of assistance to you, but if you require anything further, please call our office on 0161 437 4419

Kind Regards Gary
