With your particular body weight a medium spring tension is most appropriate and your wife is borderline soft/medium, although we would suggest soft because she sleeps on her side. Such split tension mattresses are only available in our Artisan range (pocket sprung with natural upholstery). Latex is not appropriate where there is such a weight differential.

What is required is the correct spring tension together with the right upholstery to provide the comfort required. Side sleepers really ought to go for softer upholstery layers. Please view the Artisan Luxury, which can have the spring tension selected to suit and has the soft upholstery referred to. We would not put someone on a firm spring until they were in excess of 17 stone. If you opt for the wrong tension, you could continue to suffer with back pain, although no mattress will completely eliminate or cure this.
