A customer asked

Hi John We are looking to purchase a new mattress as our current firm pocket Spring mattress needs replacing after 10 years.I'm 6"7 currently weigh 15 stone after giving birth recently and my husband is 6"0 weights 14 stone. We looked at mattresses and I'm used to a firm mattress but after laying on some of the pillow topped memory foam eg silent night chantilly we are tempted to try it out. We have had a memory foam thick topper previously but found it sucked us into the bed and made us hot. The one we tried didn't seem to do that but we were only on it for a few minutes.Do we go for a springs/" title="pocket spring">pocket spring mattress or one with a memory foam top, we would like it to last a long time and we both suffer from back pains. Thanks

Hi there,

Thank you for your enquiry. The first thing to say is that we do not make nor recommend pillow top mattresses for the reasons details in this article. When choosing a pocket sprung mattress it is important to get the correct spring tension to provide support for your body weights and also the correct level of upholstery to provide the comfort required. With your particular body weights, we would suggest that a medium spring tension mattress would be most appropriate.

Origins Pocket spring 1500 mattress

Please view the Origins Pocket 1500, which has a standard medium tension spring unit together with man-made upholstery providing an overall medium feel. If natural upholstery is preferred, have a look at the Artisan Naturals or Bespoke 004, both of which can have the spring tension selected to suit and both of which will provide an overall medium feel in the upholstery.

You may wish to opt to add a separate topper to any of these mattresses, although we would suggest trying a new mattress for at least 28 days before deciding whether one is required because if you buy at the outset, this could turn out to be an unnecessary expense.

We trust that the above is of help to you, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our advisors.

Kind Regards.
