What's the best replacement mattress for us?
We have a memory foam mattress bought a couple of years ago which is dipping in the middle. We hardly get any sleep right now and wake up with terrible back pains every day. Every night I feel that I'm sleeping on a slide and believe that we need to replace the mattress urgently. Our bed base has slats which are 2 inches apart. My husband is 14st and I'm 9st. He's 6 ft tall and my self - 5' 3". Since we started using our current mattress I've felt very hot while sleeping and he's been alright . Please advise on which mattress we should go for. Our budget is around £800. Thank you.
Hi dilsilva1,
Thank you for your question.
I'm sorry to hear of the issues that you're currently having.
This really depends on whether you are looking at sticking with a Foam mattress or moving to something else entirely.
We have our traditional Pocket Sprung mattresses, Hybrid Foam mattresses and Latex mattresses; Each are unique in their feel in their own way.
With the body weights provided we would match you both to a Medium spring if you were looking at a traditional Pocket Sprung mattress; The spring is inside the mattress and is what gives support. Once the spring is established the next focus becomes about how you want the top upholstery layers to feel. These are referred to as the comfort layers and this is where you can have a soft sink in sensation, a medium or a firmer feel.
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
We would always advise anyone with existing pains to steer clear of any product that is too firm in it's top layers as this will only exacerbate those pains. As such on a Pocket Sprung mattress I would guide you more to a Medium feeling mattress. I would recommend the Origins Pocket 1500 or the Artisan 1500.
Our Pocket Sprung mattresses are fine on those slats as the gaps are less than 3".
Our Hybrid Foam and Fusion models would need to go on to a solid base as the mattresses will attempt to settle in those gaps causing indentation and damage. As such you could simply place some sheets of MDF over the slats if you do opt for a Hybrid Foam or Fusion mattress.
Hybrid Foam gives a similar sink in sensation to memory foam but is far less heat retentive.
Our Fusion mattresses, again give a similar sink in sensation to Foam, but Latex is firmer in feel and as such I would recommend it be tested out first as it is very much a different feel.
Our Fusion range compares with the Dunlopillo range.
Our Hybrid range compares with the Tempur range.
Our Artisan range compares with the Vi-Spring range.
These comparison models can be found in any Furniture Village, Harrods, House of Fraser or And So To Bed Store.
We would need to know what size mattress you were looking at in order to accurately quote a price.
I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries then please don't hesitate to contact me on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards, Lee.
