What mattress to choose for heavier couple?

Mr Keith Coulson

Dear Sir or Madam,
Myself and my wife are looking to buy a new mattress and your web site has provided a lot of advice from your blogs and articles. My question comes from falling between the cracks in the weight charts that you provide.
We are looking to get a super king sized mattress and are currently sleeping on a king sized. Our current mattress is pocket sprung (unknown tension of spring) with a memory foam topper from Ikea. We believe that we prefer softer feel mattresses, but are not sure due to the confusion that your website highlights between firmness and support. We would like to be supported but have the cloud like sinky feel of comfort.
We are both around or just below 18 stone and like to sleep on our sides and currently get pain in our hips and other pressure points from the current mattress. Additionally, we also tend to be light sleepers and wake each other up when rolling over (hence the need for a bigger bed).
Our question is what specific mattress would you recommend that we invest in? In terms of cost, we are just interested in getting a good nights sleeps and want to get the best mattress for that.

Good Morning Keith,

Thank you for your questions.

At your body weights, you would both fall within a Medium spring tension. The spring tension is determined solely by your body weight as you need the spring to give you the right level of support.

Anyone who is a side sleeper should avoid anything too firm in the top upholstery as this will only serve to cause pressure point pains in places such as your hips, knees and shoulders.

If one user does have the tendency to disturb the other then Zip and Link mattresses would be the best thing to look at; This is effectively 2 separate mattresses that can be zipped together to form one overall unit or independently as 2 separate units. This will eliminate sleep disturbance as the movement isn't transferred between springs as they are 2 separate entities.

Given that you want something with that soft cloud-like sink sensation I would say that either our Artisan Bespoke 004 or Artisan Luxury mattresses would be the best ones to look at. The Artisan Luxury is the softest mattress that we do offer so will give that luxurious sink in sensation. The Artisan Bespoke 004 is more of a medium but medium to soft so will still give a sink in sensation but not as much as the Luxury.
