Mattress flipping and rotating explained: why you must look after your bed
I have the Origins 1500 pocket mattress (the best seller). Can I turn the mattress over onto the other side and use it that way or is it only to be used one way up?
I’ve just noticed that both sides are the same?
How should I look after my new mattress?
Hi Philip,
Great to hear from you about your Origins Pocket 1500 mattress, which as you rightly say is one of our best selling hand made mattresses.
This is a 2-sided mattress meaning you can and should use both sides of this mattress. That's why both sides look the same. A 2-sided mattress is always preferable over a one-sided mattress. This is because you can even out natural settlement by turning each month. This means your mattress will last far longer and provide more consistent comfort over the years.
How to flip/turn a mattress:
Month 1: Flip North to South (Head to toe) so the area where your feet where is now on the opposite site under your head.
Month 2: Flip East to West. So the other side of the bed, or partners side is now underneath you.
Alternate between these two methods each month.
Problems with One-Sided Mattresses:
If you want to know why your 2-sided mattress is so much better than a one sided model, such as a boxed mattress, then we have a guide here explaining why some companies only make one sided beds or no turn.
We hope that helps and wish you many years of perfect nights sleep!
