Most suitable mattress

My wife and I are looking to move from a double to a super king size bed but are so confused with the amount of options available! We would love to buy a good quality mattress from you but are still not sure what's right for us.

We currently have a memory foam mattress which is very comfortable (don't know what it is, just says sleep right bed store on the cover), the only reason to change is the size and probably it's age. When we tried beds at dreams I liked the memory foam (Hyde and sleep refine air) as it's similar to what im used to. We also both liked the softness of the flaxby 5400 masters guild mattress enhancer, my wife said it's like sleeping on a cloud!

My wife has hyper mobility and lots of joint / hip / back pains and is a side & back sleeper and I sleep on my side and we're both under 17 stone.

Is it a bad idea to use a topper because it will result in pain for my wife due to the bed being too soft? Or is it possible to achieve a soft feel on top of the mattress with a topper while still having the necessary support underneath?

Thank you!

Hi Joshua,

Thank you for your question.

The Hyde & Sleep Refine Air mattress is a medium feel memory foam mattress. Memory foam provides a moulding sensation, given you are used to this type of feel, are you looking for a traditional pocket spring mattress? We have found that customers that are used to the flat sleep surface of foam type mattresses such as memory foam and latex, can sometimes have difficulty adjusting to the tufted areas of a pocket spring mattress. Adding a mattress topper can help to even out the sleep surface. The upholstery layers will eventually flatten out and be even with the piping but this can take a few years. How does your wife find the comfort of your current mattress?

The Flaxby Maters Guild 5400 Mattress Enhancer is a mattress topper that contains Wool, Silk, Cotton and Cashmere along with micro HD springs. We do not recommend these springs as they offer nothing in the way of support but do take up space where more luxurious upholstery layers could be. This mattress topper is two sided which means it can be turned over to prolong its lifespan. We recommend adding a mattress topper if the upholstery layers are too firm to provide additional comfort. We recommend like for like when it comes to mattress toppers. You should add a foam type mattress topper for memory foam and latex mattresses if the mattress is too firm. For a natural fibre upholstery mattress, we would recommend natural fibres such as wool and cotton will help keep the breathability of the natural fibres.

Given your wife is a side and back sleeper, we recommend a medium level of comfort in the upholstery layers, such as the Artisan Naturals and Artisan Bespoke 004, which has cushioning in the top layers for your shoulders and hips to sink into when sleeping on your side but is more supportive underneath so that front and back sleepers do not sink in too much. If your wife is of light body weight, a softer medium level of comfort might be more suitable as lighter people make less impression into the upholstery layers.

For anyone under 17 stone, we would pair them with the medium spring tension to provide the correct level of support.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss your invidual needs, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards

Michaela
