Thank you for your question. The Harry Benmore Alpaca mattress is constructed with layers of Silk, Cashmere, Bamboo, Lambs' Wool, Pashmina, and Natural Alpaca fibres, which are some of the softest fibres, creating a luxurious feel. There are no GSMs given for these fibres, so we can not say how much or how little of each fibre has been used. Natural fibres do provide a cooler sleep surface, help you regulate your body temperature, and are more durable, which means the lifespan of the mattress will be longer. This mattress has layers of micro HD springs to help support the softer layers, which tend to compress quite quickly without support. We do not use these springs as they offer nothing in support, you can compress them between your finger and your thumb, but they do take up space where more luxurious and breathable upholstery layers could be.

Our closest mattress in terms of comfort and construction is our Artisan Luxury mattress. This mattress is constructed with 100% natural fibres and calico pocket springs. We have sandwiched the soft comfort layers of wool and cotton with horsehair and horsetail. These supportive fibres act the same way as the micro HD springs but are much more breathable. The overall feel of this mattress is a softer medium level of comfort. The vanadium coating on the pocket springs prevents rust and the calico material is more breathable and allows the springs more flexibility.

Both mattresses are ideal for side sleepers as the softer layers will allow shoulders and hips to sink into the upholstery, keeping the spine aligned. I would not recommend either mattress if you sleep on your front or back as sinking in too much in these positions can cause lower back pain.

The spring tension you require will be dictated by your height and body weight. Each spring tension is designed with a weight tolerance and choosing the right tension is essential to provide you with the correct level of support.
