Mattress recommendations
Hi I’m looking for a new king size mattress. I’m 5’11 90kg I have a problem with my back with a few disks.
I also have a Neurological condition called FND (functional neurological disorder) which means I can get paralysis in my legs and arms for sometimes 2-3 days. It’s important I have a comfortable bed. I have had sepsis 3 times and since the last time I get night sweats. I’m wondering what you would recommend for me?
Hi Jonathan,
Thank you for your question. The advice used to be that anyone with a back issue required a firm mattress, but this is not the case. The correct level of support is essential, which is provided by the pocket spring tension. At your height and body weight, we would pair you with the medium spring tension.
| Bodyweight | Spring tension |
|---|---|
| Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
| 16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
| Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
Natural fibre mattresses provide a cooler sleep surface and help you regulate your body temperature. This would be ideal for anyone with night sweats. A mattress protector is a must, as this will protect your new investment from perspiration and body oils. As comfort is subjective to each individual, we would need further information before we could recommend a suitable mattress for you.
What are your sleep positions and comfort preferences? This tells us how comfort layers should feel. We do not recommend firm upholstery layers for side sleepers as this can cause pressure pains in the shoulders and hips. Likewise, we do not recommend soft upholstery layers for front and back sleepers, which can cause lower back and neck pain. Is this new mattress to be used by you alone or by you and another person? If this is to be used by another person, we would need to know their requirements as well. What type of mattress are you currently sleeping on, and why are you looking to replace it? Knowing what your body is used to and how you have found your mattress in terms of comfort and support, ie, too firm, too soft, or it was comfortable but now has reached the end of its life, helps determine which level of comfort in our range would be the most suitable for your individual needs. What type of base do you have? Our mattresses can go on any base; however, the type of base can affect how the mattress feels.
I hope this helps and if you would like to discuss your individual needs please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards
Michaela
