Advice on which mattress to choose

Hello
I am looking to buy one of your mattresses and I was wondering if you could steer me in the right direction of which one you think would suit us best.
My wife is 10.5 stone and I am about 14 stone. We currently have a super king size memory foam mattress which is almost seven years old. So we definitely have two quite severe dips where we sleep now and it needs replacing.
We went for a memory foam mattress as our bedroom is in the roof so access is a bit restricted and there was no problem folding it. However we would like to return to springs/" title="pocket spring">pocket spring so are interested in your zip and link solution as a way around the access problems.
We both like a firm mattress, although appreciate the use of a soft topper, so possibly a down topper on a firm mattress may be the ideal solution for us. What we really dislike though is the soft marshmallowy feel of say a Tempur mattress where you sink into the mattress and don't feel you can move, so I am not sure a latex topper would be what we want - or would it? Your advice would be appreciated.
Our bed base is a standard 4 drawer divan and seems fine, so we would like to continue to utilize this if possible and put the money towards the mattress cost.
So in summary we are looking for a super king zip and link mattress with a topper utilising our existing base.
I have looked at your guidance on the firmness rating on your web site and the Artisan Bespoke would seem to be then best choice as it is the firmest - although at £2,300 that is a bit above my budget which is ideally around £1,750 max including the topper - although `I could stretch to more if it was the only option.
So I was wondering how much softer the Artisan 1500 or the Artisan tailored pocket 2000 were to see if they were an option. If the Artisan Bespoke is the only option I would be happy to consider one from the outlet store although even a Grade C wouldn't allow much left in the budget for a topper.
So your guidance would be very much appreciated and I look forwards to hearing from you.
Kind regards

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for your enquiry.

The first thing to say is that spring tension and overall feel are two completely different things. The spring tension needs to be sufficient to provide the correct level of support for your body weights and in you case this would be medium. We would not put either of you on a firm spring unit as this would more than likely result in aches and pains and an uncomfortable sleep. The feel or comfort is provided by the upholstery, so you could actually have a medium spring with firmer feeling upholstery as in the Artisan Bespoke. The reason that the upholstery in the Bespoke is firmer in feel to the other models in the range is that it has the most upholstery contained within the body of the mattress, which is the same depth as the other models, so it is more compact providing that firmer feel.

As far as a topper in concerned, we would always advocate using the same materials as contained in the mattress i.e. natural fibres if opting for a naturally upholstered mattress. Having said that, we would also suggest that you use your new mattress for at least 28 days before deciding upon whether a topper is necessary. If you purchase at the same time as your mattress, it could turn out to be an unnecessary expense. We endeavour to match the customer to the product and in 96% of instances we get this spot on, so there really should be no need for a topper. Toppers are used primarily to provide an extra comfort layer or to make a firm mattress feel slightly softer. If you really want a softer feel then the Artisan Bespoke may not be the right product for you. In addition, we do not have any grade c Artisan Bespoke zip and link mattresses in our outlet at present.

Our best selling model in the Artisan range is the Artisan Naturals, which can have the spring tension selected as medium and has natural upholstery providing an overall medium feel, which may be more appropriate for you. This is the best selling mattress in the Artisan range as detailed at the foot of this response. This, in a super king size zip and link set is currently £1650.00, so falls within your current budget.

We trust that the above is of help to you, but if you require any further advice or guidance in respect of our products, please call our office on 0333 258 1038 and speak with one of our advisors.

Kind regards.
