Arthritic Ankles - Any mattress recommendations

Hi, I am 5'11" and 11.5 stone, my wife is 5'7" and 9 stone.
We have a firm mattress (purchased some 18 years ago) that has served us well, it is a "Mansion House Company Grosvenor" traditional sprung and stuffed mattress I believe.
I suffer from advanced oestoarthritis in my ankles, and am now often woken by pain from them, and frequently find walking painful initially in the morning. I recently went away on business and slept in a bed with a "softer" mattress, and over 3 nights did not have any ankle pain and found walking easier in the morning. I know it is a short stay but it seemed the change in mattress helped my ankles. I sleep on my side.
Is there a mattress type you would recommend? I have been looking at memory foam / hybrid type mattress and wondering if these would help.
We have a solid divan base.

Hi Bruce,

Thank you for your enquiry.

The first thing to say is congratulation at getting 18 years out of your current mattress. Secondly, with your particular body weights, we would not suggest that you have a firm spring tension/feel mattress as your body weights dictate that a medium spring tension/feel is more appropriate. Whilst the spring tension may be appropriate, the upholstery layers will need to be on the soft side to accommodate your side sleeping.

Please view the Origins Comfort 1000, which has a standard medium tension spring unit together with layers of soft man-made upholstery. Alternatively, if you prefer natural upholstery, we would suggest that you view the Artisan Luxury, which can have the spring tension selected to suit and has the softest upholstery layers in that range. Both these are ideal for side sleepers. Although both these mattresses may suit in terms of the side sleeping, we cannot guarantee that they will eliminate your ankle pain, although the softer upholstery seems to have the desired effect recently.

We trust that the above is of help to you, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our advisors.

Kind regards.
