Best for a light weight daughter
Our daughter is back from uni . We've bought her a new slatted double bed but the choice of mattresses is overwhelming. Would the Comfort 1000 be suitable and why. She is only about 8.5 st and occasionally her boyfriend stays over
Hi Jeanette,
Thank you for your enquiry on our website. We would need to know your daughter's height, comfort preferences and sleeping habits to determine if the Origins Comfort 1000 would be a suitable mattress for her. Even though this mattress has soft comfort layers it would feel more medium for her at her body weight due to the medium spring tension of this mattress. We do recommend this mattress for children as they still need the firmer support whilst their bones are still growing. We would ideally recommend a soft spring tension for someone of her body weight unless that person was under 5 feet tall, this would give them the correct support from the springs. If the medium comfort is her prefered feel in a mattress then this mattress would be suitable. If she did find it slightly too firm you can add a mattress topper to soften the feel. We would only recommend this after a few weeks of sleeping on the mattress to get a true feel for the mattress.
Spring Tension | Wire diameter (Gauge) | Weight Range |
---|---|---|
Soft | 1.2mm | Bespoke Tension (Please Call) |
Medium | 1.4mm | Upto 16 stone |
Firm | 1.6mm | 16 stone plus |
Extra Firm / Orthopaedic | 1.9mm | 20 stone plus |
Do you know how far apart the slats are on the new base? If the space between the slats is 3 inches (7.5 cm) or more, the springs will try to settle into these gaps. If this is the case we would recommend boarding over the slats with MDF or Plywood to prevent the mattress getting a lumpy feel where it dips. This can damage a mattress over time. If you choose a foam based mattress for this base you would need to board it no matter the distance between the slats. This is because just as these types of mattresses are designed to conform to your body they also mould around the slats which will damage the mattress.
Please contact the office on 0161 413 2668 to discuss the suitability of this or another mattress with our friendly team. Our office hours are 8 am - 8 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am - 4 pm Saturday and Sunday.
Kind Regards
