A customer asked

Hi There, Wonder if you can help?

I am currently in the market for a decent mattress for my wife and I. To give you a few details that may help point me in the right direction.... I am 6ft 2" and 16 stone with Lower back issues (Work Related), My wife is 5ft 2 and approx 13 stone (Im not going to ask the question and I hope she doesn't see this!) She is also currently 14 weeks pregnant so she needs some decent support as do I!

I also tend to get quite warm & turn over quite a bit at night either through back pain or just fidgeting and don't really want to wake her up or disturb her too much. Both my wife & I prefer a firmer feel mattress than a very soft one. We currently have a 4ft 6" Leather Otterman type base that we would like keep (The room is not big enough to allow a King Size unfortunately!). I have been looking at the so called 'memory foam' mattresses from a well known maker beginning with a 'T' but have read that they can cause quite a bit of heat to build up through the night!

I like the idea of the extra support a foam mattress could afford over a spring jobbie, and have slept on a few 'Memory Foam' beds in hotels and the like and they were very comfy, but obviously living with one long term not just for a night or two is another matter. we have a budget of about £1000 but obviously with a littl'un on the way any money we can save and use else where is a bonus!

Any advice you may be able to give would be great. Many Thanks.....Chris >

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your question.

The main issue with memory foam is the heat retention and whilst it may be suitable when used as one off in hotels etc. it can prove too hot when used as your full time sleep surface.

An alternative to the memory foam is natural latex, which will provide a speedier return to shape and provide a soft but supportive feel for you both. In addition the latex will enable movement with limited disturbance of your partner.

I would suggest that, given your budget, preferred feel and limited disturbance requirement that you opt for our Fusion 3 which will give you both a more overall medium comfort and support and can be placed on to your ottoman base.   The Fusion 3 has a core mattress and a separate topper which allows you to sink into the topper before reaching the support of the core mattress.

I hope this assists, but should you require further information or advice, please do not hesitate to telephone our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind regards Julie
