Can memory foam mattress be used on slats?

Yes, a memory foam mattress can be used on a slatted bed frame, but there are a few important details to keep in mind regarding support and ventilation:

1.  Slat Gap Width
The distance between the slats is crucial. We recommend that the gaps do not exceed 7 cm (around 3 inches). If the gaps are wider than 3 inches, memory foam can push through and settle into the gaps, causing the mattress to dip, lose support, and potentially suffer damage over time.

2.  Boarding Over Wide Gaps or Sprung Slats
If your frame has gaps wider than 3 inches, or if it utilizes curved/sprung slats—which can make a mattress dip in the middle or feel overly soft—you should cover the slatted area with 3mm to 6mm sheets of MDF or plywood to create a flat, uniform surface. My daughter many years ago had a solid memory foam mattress, on a slatted base and couldn't understand why he mattress felt so uneven and lumpy to sleep on. Lifting it up we could see that her slatted base was leaving large imprints in the mattress, and it was settling between the slats, thus giving her the lumpy feel.

3.  Ventilation
Memory foam and hybrid foams do not breathe as effectively as natural fibres or pocket sprung layers. If you are placing a board over your slats or using a solid base for a one-sided foam mattress, it is advisable to drill ventilation holes into the boards to allow adequate airflow and prevent moisture or mould build-up underneath.

The bottom of a memory foam mattress (Memory Foam on Foam) is/should be High Density foam and I can't see any reason why any slatted base could not be used.
It certainly isn't going to squidge out between the gaps too easily.

However, as a sidenote, I do think that for most other mattress types the addition of a blanket or duvet on top of any slatted base is worthwhile, just to give a flexible layer of suspension/protection from the hard slats and the mattress.

People currently with slatted bases see that when they turn the mattress there are slat shaped ridges where the pressure of the slats have been. This does have an obvious detrimental effect on the fabric and underlying waddding. Protecting the mattress from the slats does not really matter as much with foam mattresses - partularly Memory Foam on High Density Foam as these are one sided.
