Can we recover our old mattress?

Thanks for contacting us regarding your horsehair mattress. It is unbelievable that your mattress is 50 years old; wow, it must have been an extremely well-made mattress! Horsehair mattresses are known for their durability and exceptional quality, often lasting decades when properly cared for. The craftsmanship that goes into creating such a mattress includes a meticulous process of layering and tufting, which not only enhances comfort but also provides remarkable support.   We explain all about horsehair here.

It isn't something that we have come across before, so we would suggest that you look online for mattress manufacturers in your area and contact them with a view to re-covering the mattress, but I personally don't know of any manufacturer that would offer this service, as they just usually make their own products.

We do not manufacture or supply replacement mattress covers, nor do we offer a re-covering service for existing or antique mattresses. However, you may wish to contact a specialist upholstery company who may be able to assist you with this.  This service, I would imagine wouldn't be cheap, and so it maybe more cost effective to order a new mattress instead.
