I understand how overwhelming choosing the right mattress can be, especially when replacing one after 25 years. Making a direct comparison, even with similar constructions, can be difficult when there are no GSM's given (grams per square meter), no foam densities or spring tensions. The Carpetright mattress features 2,000 pocket springs and 7.5cm of memory foam, whereas the Breasley Flexcell Pocket Cocona contains 1,600 pocket springs and 7cm of memory foam. Please note that the 400-spring difference between these two models is relatively nominal. Unfortunately, we do not have the detailed foam density breakdown for these specific models. Retailers like Carpetright often do not provide the specific density, hardness, or chemical composition for the foams used in their ranges, making an accurate comparison difficult. For your reference, a 60kg density is generally considered a soft feel, while 70kg is a medium density and 80kg is firm. You can find more information in our memory foam article here.

Spring tension information, which is also not provided by either manufacturer, is also an important factor when purchasing a new mattress, as this is dictated by how much pressure is applied, and this in turn is determined by your height and body weight. When you lie down, the springs beneath your body compress in proportion to the pressure applied. Heavier areas, like your hips, compress springs more deeply, whilst lighter areas, like your waist, allow less compression. This creates a sleep surface that follows your body’s natural contours rather than forcing your spine into unnatural positions.

We do not sell mattresses that contain memory foam, which requires both body heat and pressure to mould to your body. Because this heat does not dissipate and is retained within the mattress, it feeds back to the sleeper, which can cause overheating. Additionally, memory foam can soften too much during the night, which has been described by many customers as trying to turn over in a swamp. If you prefer a moulding feel without the heat retention,  our Origins Latex range is a great alternative.
