Comparison to Hypnos Orthos Cashmere mattress

A customer asked

I am looking at mattresses at the moment and I have seen a "Hypnos Orthos Cashmere" for £750. I was wondering if you could draw a comparison to this mattress with your products?

I presently have a "Supreme 1000 pocket sprung with memory foam" from Beds R Us in Bradford who I believe make their own?

It is the second one I have had (they kindly replaced it when I complained about the first one being uncomfortable) but I never get a decent nights sleep and I always feel pressure/pain in my shoulders and hips and it just feels 'lumpy'. It has put me off memory foam but I don't know if this is justified a I know nothing to compare it with. I weigh between 14 & 15 stone and am 6 ft tall. My partner weighs around 9 to 9.5 stone and is approx 5ft 3. Thanks

Hi Steve,

Thank you for your enquiry via our website.  From what you have said, it would appear that your current mattress is too firm in the comfort layers.  This is what may be causing the pressure pains you are experiencing in your shoulders and hips.  What base is your mattress on? A slatted base may be contributing to the lumpy feel if the gaps are more than 3 inches.

Memory foam is definitely not for everyone, in fact, there is a clear divide in the bed world between those that like traditional pocket sprung mattresses and those that like contemporary memory/latex foam mattresses. It sounds like memory foam is just not for you. The sensation between memory foam and traditional beds is also very very different. The former being likened to a slow deep/progressive sink feeling (sometimes like quicksand) and the traditional beds more of a lighter sink and more responsive support feel (ie returns to its original position quicker than slow-acting memory foams) some call this a more robust feel.

We don't have any direct comparisons for the cashmere model you have found as our beds are a different construction method, more likened to Vi-spring rather than Hypnos, that are fully turnable rather than 'seasonal turnable' like the Hypnos. The season turnable usually means one side has a slightly less warm side ie a wool side vs a reflex foam or cotton side. The difference in our experience is minimal and can actually result in a reduced bed life as you only turn it once a year and so settlement can occur faster than usual. We recommend you turn your mattress once a month to ensure the most extended lifespan for your bed. What we would suggest is that you look at Vi-spring, one of the best mattress manufactures in the UK for comparisons.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

I also would ask you why based on your weight you're looking for such a firm mattress as your partner will more than likely find this akin to sleeping on a concrete floor at their weight!  We would pair you both with a medium spring tension to give you both the correct level of support.  Neither of you weighs enough to compress a firm spring so you are relying on the upholstery layers for both support and comfort.

Kind Regards
