Hi,

I'm looking at the Origins 1500 mattress.

Is this mattress delivered rolled up?

Hi Fiona,

Thanks for your question asking about our hand made mattress range. The Origins Pocket 1500 is our best selling mid-range mattress for those that want quality without spending a fortune o a new mattress. Featuring a whopping 1550GSM and a 1.4 medium gauge spring tension of independent pocket springs.

We don't box or roll any of our mattresses. They are all hand made here in the UK and then delivered by a 2 man delivery team and placed into a room of your choice. Our mattresses are heavier than most UK retailers as they contain far more fillings and more mattress detailing, such as edge support.

Boxed and rolled mattresses have been sold as a convenient way to deliver a new mattress, which whilst true, also limits the quality and durability of the mattresses that can be boxed and rolled. High-end mattress manufacturers will never box or roll their models as mattresses are simply not designed or made to be crushed and rolled. Mattress toppers, maybe but never a quality mattress.

Which beds can be boxed and rolled?

Only cheaper memory foam mattresses or low GSM models can be crushed and rolled. However, we have experimented with the rolling process on test models and found damage issues occur with rolling and crushing mattresses. Foam can tear, upholstery can become displaced and calico pocket springs do not lend themselves to becoming put under such extreme pressure.

Rolled mattresses have limitations in terms of the type of fillings that can be used - usually thinner synthetic materials or foam support. Some smaller micro springs can be crushed and rolled but we also refuse to use them in our designs due to their fundamental flaws. You can read more on why micro springs should be avoided where possible in preference of better/higher upholstery fibre volumes.

Can you image the stress and pressure placed on the springs and upholstery fibres as they contort unnaturally into this rolled shape?

Usual models that can be boxed and rolled due to their materials and entry level fibres are Eve, Simba, Leesa and Emma mattresses. IKEA offers a number of their entry level mattresses rolled and crushed.

You can see below what to expect for your price point which can be really helpful for people looking for a new mattress.

How much to spend on a double mattress? What can I expect for my money?
Under £500 Will not get you much at best a 13.5 gauge open coil/cage sprung with a thin polyester layer or a solid foam mattress.

Access Issues

Our specialist delivery team can deliver your bed by hand to a room of your choice. You do need to make sure there is adequate access especially if you have tight stairwells, tight right-hand bends or low ceilings. Please check with our team before ordering to make sure your mattress will fit.

For superking mattresses, we usually recommend a zip and link mattress configuration. This is because superking one piece mattresses can be incredibly heavy and difficult to handle. A zip and link makes access issues easier for you and also makes turning the mattress each month far easier. An additional benefit is that zip and link beds can further reduce transference between sleepers meaning fidgety partners don't wake you up!

We hope that helps and if you have any more mattress related questions please get back in touch on info@localhost or 0161 437 4419 were our small team will be happy to help.
Sleep well
John & Ryan
