Equivalent to Benson for Beds iGel Carina Divan bed
We tried an iGel Carina Super King Divan Bed ( Bensons firmness level 2) at Bensons recently and liked the firmness and comfort of the bed. Also the iGel cooling feature appealed to us.
We have a restricted headroom access between the inclined line of the front of the stair treads and the stairwell ceiling (approx 136cm), and hence would need a "zip and link" mattress and divan base arrangement, with headboard. Unfortunately, Bensons do not have a zip and link option for the above iGel mattress.
We would like a zip and link arrangement as shown on your website, with a pocketed spring arrangement to give a similar "feel" in terms of firmness (ie similar to Bensons firmness rating 2), together with a hybrid foam (presumably your "Laygel" foam toppers, to give quick recovery, hence facilitating ease of movement to different positions in the bed. Unfortunately, your Hybrid mattresses do not come in "zip and link" option and would therefore could not pass up our stairwell.
However, would one of your Laygel toppers be flexible enough to allow bending to pass through the above 136cm headroom clearance and be used in combination with one of your zip and link pocketed mattresses/base to give a similar feel and comfort level as the above Bensons bed?
Hi Graham,
Thank you for your enquiry.
The first thing to say is that the firmness rating applied to Bensons products is exclusive to them and there is no indication provided as to how they assess such ratings, which means that making a comparison in terms of feel is impossible.
Please see our spring tension to body weight guide below.
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
Your access issues dictate that you need to opt for a zip and link set, including bases. Zip and links are far easier to turn and move about when needed than a one piece.
You are correct in asserting that the latex and hybrid foam products are not available in a zip and link option. Without knowledge of your body weight(s) and preferred feel, it is difficult for us to make a specific recommendation from our pocket sprung ranges. As far as a topper is concerned, we would advise that we take great care to match the customer to the product in terms of spring tension and comfort (upholstery) and we would advocate using a new mattress for at least 28 days before deciding upon whether a topper is necessary.
If you buy one at the outset, it may turn out to be an unnecessary expense. Toppers are used primarily to provide an extra comfort layer or to soften a firm feeling mattress.
