Foam or pocket sprung for existing slatted divan?

We currently have a Dunlopillow Talalay Diamond zip link super king mattress which we bought with a slatted divan base. We’ve found that a ridge developed where the mattress zips together and we now both sleep in a dip. You can see the indents on both sides of the bed!

We tried adding an mdf sheet a couple of years ago but I think the damage had already been done. It’s around 10 years old now and really in need of replacement. It feels fairly firm overall but we still feel we sink into the foam, not in a good way!

The most comfortable mattress we have owned was a king size Rest Assured Symphony pocket sprung 2000, on a spring edge divan but we found we lost a few inches on either side as the mattress fell away on the edge. We still have this as a guest bed and have had comments on how comfy it’s been. A really good nights sleep but we ended up too close together because we were avoiding the edge.

Many years ago we stayed in a Westin hotel in Canada and slept on their Heavenly Bed which felt amazing. It was a zip link super king and was what prompted us to get our Dunlopillo bed, but they just don’t compare! No idea if it was foam or pocket sprung though, wish we’d checked.

Not even sure if we need zip and link, we originally thought it might stop us each from feeling the other turn over.

I am 10 stone and sleep mainly on my side while my husband is around 12 stone and prefers to sleep on his front. We are so confused as to what to buy next.

Our budget is approx £800-900, possibly more if needed.

Do we keep the existing divan and spend all our budget on a mattress or do we try to replace both the divan and mattress within our budget?

Thank you
