I need some advice on what material I should go for
Hi there. I came across your website by accident and really like the way that you really try and help customers with straightforward advice. I'd like to buy a new mattress but I'd like a bit of advice about construction. Over the past six years I've bought two new mattresses - both seemed very good when new but after about a year they were less good. The first was a John Lewis mattress with a two inch layer of memory foam - felt great initially but very soon it became obvious that the insulating effect of the memory foam was causing a problem. I radiate quite a lot of heat while sleeping (according to my wife) and the memory foam just made this worse. I used to waken up in the middle of the night soaking wet and it was horrible. Eventually I resorted to sleeping on top of a large cotton towel but this was pretty unsatisfactory. So we threw out the memory foam topped mattress and following a recommendation from a local furniture shop we bought a 'Bamboo' mattress which was supposed to help keep you cool. It did do that and the overheating problem stopped but the mattress itself didn't seem to be great quality and despite being turned very month it became very lumpy and uncomfortable. I've spent a few nights in Premier Inns and the mattress there was very comfy but I have concerns about the quality of the Syphos mattress (which I think is the one they use). I'm very keen on your Origins Pocket 1500 - do you think that would be suitable bearing in mind the problems I've had with my last two mattresses ?
Hi Dave,
Thank you for your question.
I'm sorry to hear of the issues you've been having so far.
Our Origins Pocket 1500 mattress is comparable to the Premier Inn Hypnos mattress.
As such it is a great all rounder as it is designed to hold a vast array of body weights.
It is also medium feeling in it's top upholstery layers, also referred to as the comfort layers, I.e, it isn't too soft nor too firm.
With this model you won't find any heat retention issues as it isn't constructed from memory foam. You also get a great all round support and it wouldn't feel like sleeping on a towel as you have experienced previously.
The top layer is 300gsm of wool sitting on top of 750gsm of very soft polyester. As you can see from this it isn't foam in the top layers.
With anyone who identifies as a 'hot' sleeper we would always direct them to our Artisan range as these are constructed from natural fibres and materials and as such are a lot cooler to the touch. However, this isn't to say that the Origins Pocket 1500 isn't suitable for you; Particularly as you've already tested the Premier Inn version.
One piece of information we would need from you is the body weights of the users of the mattress in order to ensure you are matched to the correct spring tension. This is what provides you with the correct level of support within the mattress itself.
I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries then please don't hesitate to contact me on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards, Lee.
