Latex mattress versus sprung?
After plenty of reading around, I'd like to go for a latex mattress. Unfortunately, the Origins 1500 is far too firm for me as I only weigh 10 stone. 1) Are you aware of any manufacturers producing latex mattresses that are soft / medium soft at this body weight?
2) Another alternative is to buy a springs/" title="pocket spring">pocket spring unit and a latex topper. Would you recommend this with the Origins Comfort?
3) Finally, would you mind sharing your thoughts on full latex versus pocket sprung plus latex?
Thanks in advance. .
Hi Dan.
Thank you for your interesting questions. With regards to the Origins Pocket Latex 1500 we do err on the side of caution. 6 cm of Latex plus a further 2 cm of Reflex Foam is an above average amount. Couple this with the support from the pocket springs leads to a very supportive (and comfortable) mattress.
At your bodyweight, we would say you are borderline between the spring tensions. This means you would get the support from a soft spring but if you wanted a firmer support you could opt for the medium spring tension. Although having said that the Origins Pocket Latex 1500 would still feel firm to medium.
Spring Tension | Wire diameter (Gauge) | Weight Range |
---|---|---|
Soft | 1.2mm | Bespoke Tension (Please Call) |
Medium | 1.4mm | Upto 16 stone |
Firm | 1.6mm | 16 stone plus |
Extra Firm / Orthopaedic | 1.9mm | 20 stone plus |
Which brings me to your question about full latex v pocket latex. A solid core Latex mattress gives you support and comfort in absolute equal measure. Your body will use what it needs to from comfort and the support kicks in when it can't compress any further. I would go to Dunlopillo stockist (such as Furniture Village) to try their range to see how you feel on these type of mattresses, we do have some comparable mattresses in our Fusion range.
Personally, I would suggest The Origins Comfort 1000 with a separate Latex topper, if you wanted the Latex comfort layer. The Origins Comfort 1000 is a very forgiving mattress (Cloud like) which makes it an ideal choice for very lighter weights. Adding the topper to this - whether it be latex or a decent feather and down will give it a truly luxurious feel although you may find you do not need a mattress topper at all, try it for a few weeks first before purchasing your topper.
Incidentally, when looking at latex toppers remember that there are different grades of latex, and different densities - 60 kg is soft, 70 kg is a medium and 80 kg is firm.
