Mattress advice for teenage girl

Hi John and Ryan. You have given me excellent advice before (on a mattress for my 10-yr-old...I now have a question about my teenage daughter's bed. We have a sprung slatted iron bedstead and she is about to inherit it so I need to buy her a new double mattress. She is about 5ft 3inches and weighs about 6.5 stone. I fear a firm or orthopaedic mattress is going to feel awfully firm to her. Would you recommend a pocket sprung mattress or a memory foam one?
We need something that isn't too heavy as she and I will have to turn the mattress together and we're both quite small!!

Hi Annabel.
As your little princess is of such a light bodyweight the focus of the mattress should be entirely based on comfort.
A suitable option would be our Origins Comfort 1000 as this model has very soft upholstery with a medium spring support. It is important for children to have a firmer support to support their growing bones.
First Layer: 750gsm Very Soft Polyester: This is the primary comfort layer directly beneath the fabric. In its loose state the depth of this material is about 3″ in depth. When the mattress is sewn up and tufted this will be naturally compressed giving you a perfect comfort but also working with the support from the underlying layers.
Second Layer: 500gsm Polyester Pad: This is a relatively firm pad and used primarily as support for the subsequent softer layer.
Third Layer: One inch foam insulator: Directly on top of the spring unit we use a one inch layer of HD foam. This cushions all the fillings from the spring unit but also works with you enabling the pocket springs to rise and fall as you move.
The mattress (Side Panel) depth is 10″ plus the undulations caused by the multi layers of wadding brings the height to a more realistic 13″ deep. The side panels are machine stitched and finished in a complimentary durable fabric. The mattress cover is a premium soft knit Silk content fabric.
