Hi,

I have been popping on your website on and off over the years and really appreciate the transparency and willingness to share your knowledge. It's probably come to a time for us to change our mattress and I have a fair idea what I would in my mattress but I thought I will just run it by you just to check.

We currently have a La Romantica Madrid mattress circa 2012. At that time we liked the mattress because we didn't want to buy any high street retailer inflated price mattress. Also liked that it seemed to have adequate springs, and memory foam comfort layers on both sides. I know in recent times, this mattress has been frown upon, but it has served us well, although we certainly have not been feeling the comfort of the memory foam layer in recently times. We are both side sleepers, I am 10st and my husband 15st.

Looking at your range, I have narrowed it down to a few of them:

1 Origins Pocket latex 1500: The top comfort layers appeal to me, but I am concerned that it might be too firm? Also would prefer calico pocket springs.

2 Artisan Naturals: Seems to be a happy medium choice, but slightly concerned as to whether the comfort layers will give us the "sink in" comfort.

3 Artisan Latex: A bit on a higher price point, but has some latex content in the comfort layers, but again still a bit unsure if 1 layer of latex will provide enough comfort, where the Origins Pocket Latex has 2. Wondering if the extra cost actually gives us what we need or not.

Needless to say, we don't really want to spend more then we need to, but again would pay a bit more if it guarantees a good night sleep.

Thanks for your advice.

Hi Esther,

Many thanks for your kind words about our website. Its a labour of love for us to help provide as much detail on mattresses as possible!

So it's come time to say goodnight to your La Romantica Madrid mattress. If a mattress has served you well thats all there is to say, whether review slate it or not it whether you've found it comfortable that matters.

Ok so at your bodyweights you both need a 1.4 gauge pocket spring which all the mattresses above have the option of. As you'll know from reading the site most people totally overlooked the spring tension and end up with a completely unsuitable mattress.

It sounds like your memory foam mattress has compressed beyond its capability to return. Which will happen with all synthetic foams over time. We would advise that a Latex alternative would be the best bet for your next mattress. Not only is it far more responsive but it is far more breathable than memory foam for a cooler nights sleep.

Origins Pocket Latex
This is our starter model for a latex mattress. At this price point we've had to make this model one-sided, as doubling the latex quantity would take this past the £1000 mark and price many people out. It's a firmer feel mattress which us making me question whether at your 10 stone it would be to firm a mattress in terms of the upholstery.

Artisan Naturals Mattress
This is our most popular model for good reason. It's a true medium feel and is 85% natural fibre making it a super cool sleep experience. It also utilises a calico encased vanadium coated pocket spring like Vispring and Savoir. It will give you both a medium feel but won't have the sink that your La Romantica mattress once had. This is a two sided model.

Artisan Latex
Whilst this is the most expensive out of the three you have shortlisted is contains the highest quality of components. It has the same spring unit as the Artisan Naturals the divine calico encased pocket spring. However, it is also topped with 100% Natural entirely plant-based fibres. Slightly firmer than the naturals but with the responsivity brought by the superior Talalay natural latex layer. This married with the softer plant-based fibres such as Bamboo gives a sink before support. This is a two sided model. It's firmer than the naturals but slightly more responsive due to the Latex and Bamboo.

We would advise that if your budget can stretch the two Artisan Models are far superior to the Origins model. They offer a cooler nights sleep and the best spring unit available for any mattress manufacturing. Which is why Savoir and Vispring use the same one! These springs are highly responsive and reduce transference considerably.

With any new mattress, they will take a few weeks to get used to so it's worthwhile bearing this in mind, especially if trying to compare to your 8-year-old mattress as well.

Have a look at those 2 Artisan models and please get back in touch if you need more guidance on 0161 437 4419.

All the best
John & Ryan
