My Tempur mattress and frame creaks

Thanks for your question. This is a common question we are asked, especially if you build the bedframe in-situ. We understand how frustrating it can be hearing a squeak every time your partner moves or trying to remain still so as not to wake your partner. To help troubleshoot, is the creaking coming from the slats or the headboard?

In most cases, creaking is caused by loose fixings. These are typically hexagon screws that require an Allen key to tighten, which is usually supplied with your bedframe. Just be careful not to overtighten or strip them. A good way to confirm the source of the noise is to remove the mattress and gently rock the frame to identify any loose areas.

If you have straight slats, these can squeak where they meet a wooden central support bar or the frame sides. Applying a small amount of washing-up liquid or hair conditioner to lubricate these touching wooden parts will eliminate the noise.  As general maintenance, it’s good practice to inspect your bed frame every three months to retighten any fixings and reapply lubricant as needed.
