Recommendation for side sleepers

Amirah

Hello
We are both around 13 stone side (and sometimes back) sleepers who move a bit during the night, often also cuddling up in the middle of the bed, so the weights are not always evenly distributed. I also suffer from lower back problems. For the last couple of days we have been sleeping on folding mattresses (cheap foam, not very high and very soft) placed on the floor and topped with a "Luxury Duck Down Dual Chamber Topper" from soak and sleep. Before moving we were sleeping on a 1200 pocket sprung mattress provided by our landlord (I believe it had cost him in the range of 200£) that was designated medium-firm and also topped with the mattress topper.
The current sleeping arrangement on the floor is surprisingly comfortable. But we would like to buy a proper double bed and mattress as soon as possible, ideally without having to spend a fortune since our budget is a bit tight after moving house. I had always assumed we would need a hard mattress, but now I am not so sure.
Is there anything you can recommend based on these details?

Hi Amirah,

Thanks for your question.

Side sleepers need to avoid anything too firm in the top layers as this will simply serve to cause pressure point pains in places such as shoulders, hips and knees.

At your body weights on a traditional pocket sprung mattress we ourselves would match you both with a Medium spring tension to get the right level of support;'''

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

Given your sleeping habits we would guide you to something more medium or soft in the top layers. Have a look at our Origins Pocket 1500, Artisan Naturals and Artisan Luxury mattresses.

The Origins range is our starter range of pocket sprung mattresses constructed with synthetic fillings and a true medium feel in the top layers giving a slight sink but not too much.

Our Artisan range is again pocket sprung mattresses but this range has natural fillings in the construction that provide a cool sleep surface. The Naturals is our true medium in the top layers and also our best selling model. The Luxury is the softest mattress that we retail giving that luxurious sink in sensation. Please see below for the full breakdown of materials of both models in the Artisan range as well as the comparison models that can be found in stores such as Furniture Village, Harrods, House of Fraser and now Prestige Beds.

From your current sleep set up I would advise pairing it with our Contemporary Platform Divan. This is a solid top platform base that will firm up the spring tension and will emulate the current sleep surface of the floor.
