Thanks for getting in touch and sorry to hear you're struggling with a dipping Hypnos mattress. We know all too well in our experience that a dipping mattress means a disturbed and awkward night lying awake!

It's strange that the mattress is 5cm shorter than the base? Furniture has a 2cm plus or minus tolerance but never as much as 5cm. It sounds like they sent you the wrong mattress, especially if it has been made to such an unusual size? I'd be minded to check they haven't sent you a prototype or concept model?

The hard wall or hammock you describe does often occur in large one-piece mattresses like super kings. This is not necessarily a fault with the mattress but more the usage of the central part. As most sleepers tend to stick to one side the very centre of a large one-piece mattress gets used. It can lead to this firmer section where the upholstery comfort layer has settled at a slower rate.

The way to get around this is to choose a zip and link mattress size when looking for a super king mattress. This is because it has further central support which stops this settlement from becoming so apparent. It also means it is far easier to flip and turn the mattress each month. You want to avoid a no-turn mattress where possible as this usually means a far shorts mattress life span and poorer construction methods when compared to a 2-sided pocket sprung mattress.

To be able to fully recommend we would need to know what comfort preference you're looking for in the mattress ie a soft, medium or firmer feel from the upholstery layers. These are also known as the comfort layers and differ to the spring tension which is always set by your weight and doesn't dictate the feel of the mattress (even though many retailers wrongly suggest it does).
