Tension of bed

Good day,

I am interested in your Artisan Sublime king. However, I'm having trouble with the tension. I have another bed I use in France which is orthopedic as I have a bad back I use Simmons   orthopedic due to horrendous lower back pain . I'm 98 kg at present.

Hi Jim,

Thank you for your question. The advice used to be that anyone with a back problem required a firm mattress, but this is no longer the case. The correct level of support for your height and body weight is essential.

An orthopaedic spring requires a bodyweight of at least 127 kg to activate the springs; if the springs are not active and moving with you, then they are not supporting you. The orthopaedic mattress is essentially a table top of wire with upholstery layers. At your body weight, we would pair you with the medium spring tension; however, given that you are used to an extremely firm mattress, the firm spring tension will still feel very supportive.

Artisan Sublime mattress

The Artisan Sublime mattress has a firmer medium level of comfort in the upholstery layers, which will allow a little cushioning for your shoulders and hips to sink into. As a side sleeper, I would not recommend comfort layers firmer than this. We usually recommend a softer or medium level of comfort for side sleepers unless you prefer a firmer overall feel. If the upholstery layers are too firm for side sleepers, this can cause pressure pains in the shoulders and hips, making them move around a lot to find a comfortable position. They can pivot on these areas, which puts pressure on the lower spine.

Building a pocket sprung base

We would also pair this mattress with a pocket sprung base, which cushions the mattress. If you put it on a platform or slatted base, this will firm up the internal support of the mattress.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards

Michaela
