vispring richmond (john lewis) equivalent
Hi,
I am looking for a new mattress. I'm roughly 100kg and 2m. I tried the richmond vispring firm in John lewis and it was quite nice. I tried a few others in John lewis but this seems to be the one I get back to.
I'm normally a side sleeper and I have a slatted bedframe and a woolen topper at the moment. The mattress I have is getting to its end of life and it is a no-turn pocketsprung with some sort of memory foam top.
As I'm reasonably tall I'd like a custom size of 220cm x 90cm mattress.
What would you recommend?
Kind regards,
Karel
Hi Karel,
Thank you for your question. We can make our Artisan range to any size due to the handmade spring units used within these mattresses. There is an additional 10% per 6-inch increment of change on the cost of the closest standard size. The size that you require, 90 cm wide and 220 cm long, would be an additional 20% on the cost of a standard single mattress. As a bespoke item, it would not be covered under our 60-day love it or return it guarantee, which means that if it is not suitable, you can not send it back for a refund or exchange.

The Vispring Richmond mattress at John Lewis has a medium level of comfort in the natural fibre upholstery layers and two tiers of handmade calico pocket springs. The closest mattress in our range in terms of comfort and construction is the Artisan Bespoke 002, which also has a medium overall feel in the 100% natural comfort layers and two tiers of handmade calico pocket springs. Please bear in mind that the mattress you tried in the showroom will already have been softened by many potential customers and a new mattress will always feel firmer as the upholstery layers are compacted during manufacturing and it takes you sleeping and moving around on the mattress to soften and flatten the upholstery fibres.
At your height and body weight, you are borderline between the spring tensions. This means that you would be at the very top of the range of the medium spring tension range, which might not feel supportive enough for you and at the bottom of the firm spring tension range, which may feel too supportive for you. Having two tiers of firm pocket springs will feel softer in the support than one tier of firm springs. Two tiers of springs also provide the mattress with a bouncier feel.
| Bodyweight | Spring tension |
|---|---|
| Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
| 16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
| Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
The type of base you use with the mattress can affect how it feels. Both the Artisan Bespoke 002 and the Vispring Richmond mattresses are designed for a pocket sprung base. The mattress you tried in the showroom would have been displayed on a base similar to the Artisan Base. If you put these mattresses onto a platform or slatted base, it will firm up the internal support of the mattress slightly.
I hope this helps and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss your individual needs, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards
Michaela
