I have a back problem and I have been told not too have the latex too thick or too many pocket springs as tis could make it too firm. Is this correct?

Hi Jeanette,

The main consideration when advising on the most appropriate mattress for a customer is their body weight as this will have a varying degree of effects on different construction types. As far as the number of springs are concerned, most descriptions provide the number of spring in a king size product and this number can increase or decrease dependent upon the size selected. As a guide, 1000 springs in a king size are usually sufficient to provide support for people of average body weights.  We do make a mattress in our Origins range (Origins Pocket 1500), which provides a medium feel for body weights between 10 st and 17 st, however, if the spring count is increased to 2000 this makes the feel quite firm.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

With our Artisan range which are constructed with natural fibers, you have the ability to select the spring tension that is correct for your body weight.  At your body weight you would be paired with a soft spring tension.  Body weight will usually dictate the springs tension, either soft, medium or firm, but in addition the levels of upholstery should be considered when deciding upon a product.

The advice used to be that anyone with a back problem required a firm mattress but that is a misnomer.  With the correct spring tension, the comfort layers are dictated by personal preferences and sleeping habits.

I hope this was helpful and if you would like any further information of would like to discuss the suitability of any of our mattresses please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.  Our office hours are 8 am - 8 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am - 4 pm Saturday and Sunday

Kind Regards

Michaela
