Which Artisan mattress.
Looking to buy a super King zip and link mattress. I am 10.5 stone, my husband is 15.5-16 stone. Both 6 foot tall.
Our current bed is a king sized zip and link Hypnos Heritage Duchess.
we would buy a mixed medium/firm tension mattress from you. Maybe slightly above what we need from your charts but by preference.
Trouble is our current mattress is mixed firm/extra firm and we both find our respective sides too soft!
I did speak to Lee on the phone last week and have had a look on your website and narrowed it down to the Artisan 1500 or Artisan Bespoke although there is a large difference in price between the two.
I would obviously prefer the cheaper oprion but and I am worried my husband in particular would find it too soft, even in the firm tension and would go back to his current habit of retreating to the spare room where we have a double with a mattress which for me is like sleeping on the floor!
The draw of the bespoke is that it's billed as a firmer mattress.
I guess what I am asking is how much of a difference is there given that it costs nearly £1000 extra?
Also would using a contemporary base rather than a sprung base make a difference to the 1500?
I would want to use a mattress topper to protect it and have found one with John Lewis which is wool and billed as ' orthopaedic' which would probably appease my other half and provide me with some 'give' as I have gammy runners hips.
Perhaps we are destined to need separate beds like my Grandparents use to!?
I hope not. Please help,
Hi Ruth,
Thank you for your questions.
With the body weights provided we would match you definitely to a Medium spring. We would also match your husband to a Medium spring solely off his body weight. However, he is approaching the Firm spring band so if he did want something a bit more supportive then he could absolutely choose a Firm spring.
The spring sits inside the mattress and is what provides the support to the user.
The Artisan Bespoke is the firmest feeling mattress that we have in it's comfort layer and on a Firm spring would come in feeling similar to an Orthopaedic mattress. However, we don't offer Extra Firm springs so if you're finding your current one too soft then you might have the same issue here.
The Artisan 1500 is medium feeling overall but is just behind the Artisan Bespoke in terms of firmness.
The bed base can make a big difference to the overall feel of the mattress. If it is a solid top base then it will always firm up the feel of the mattress whereas a pocket sprung base will do the opposite and soften down it's feel.
In regards to mattress toppers I would always advise anyone purchasing a new mattress to use the mattress by itself during the first 60 days under our 60 day love it or return it guarantee. This will give you a true feel of the mattress and once that 60 days is up you could then add a topper if you want an extra comfort layer.
With that in mind, toppers are predominantly used to protect the mattress but also to soften down any mattress that is too firm; It is very difficult to do the opposite and firm up a mattress that you find too soft.
You do also have the option of Zip and Link's; These are great where access to the property might be limited, where the 2 users have very different body weights and one spring won't support both or where one user has a tendency to disturb the other. Here, you may find the mattresses slightly firmer overall as you have less overall surface.
I hope that this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries then please don't hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards, Lee.
