Which JRBD mattress should I buy
We are in our late 60s and are up sizing from a king size to super king. Our existing bed is firm with a heavy memory foam topper.
We are both side sleepers. I am 5ft 6, 11 st, with a hip problem. I like a smooth mattress, preferably slightly softer than our present mattress, but very supportive.
My husband is 5ft 7, 16 st. He prefers a very firm bed, but is happy with a soft topper.
Please suggest the mattress we should buy. Also, can you take the old bed for disposal? Thanks.
Hi Sally,
Thanks for your question. We get a lot of questions on how to choose the best mattress and we love helping people clear up the confusion when looking to buy a new bed!
At your body weights you would both be matched with a Medium spring tension to get the right level of support;
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
There will need to be a level of compromise given your different preferred feels. The firmest mattress that we retail is the Artisan Bespoke, which will be suited to your partner but will really be too firm for you.
For yourself and your preference, we'd match you more with a medium feel in the top layers. The Artisan Naturals fits this bill as it's a true medium in the top layers providing a slight sink in the top layer but not too much.
We wouldn't really recommend a memory foam topper with these mattresses as they are constructed with natural fillings providing a cool sleep surface whereas memory foam does the opposite requiring heat retention in order to adapt to your body movements.
I'd say you were safer going with the medium to have that compromise as you then have the option of adding a topper from somewhere like Soak and Sleep if you're finding the bed too firm after 4-6 weeks.
Our delivery team can take away the old bed for you and it can be recycled. At John Ryan by Design we offer an Eco Mattress Recycling service (for a small fee when you buy a mattress from us). This means we can remove and carefully dispose of your old mattress in an environmentally friendly way using mattress recycling.
The specialist recycling centre we use can break down nearly every component part of your mattress and then recycle it for a second life as something else meaning virtually zero waste with your old bed.
I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don't hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards, Lee.
