Who makes beds for Marks and Spencer?

Marks & Spencer mattresses are made by various third-party manufacturers. Whilst we do not know who manufactures the pillowtop mattress that is paired with the Winchester Oak model,

• Harrison Spinks: Manufactures M&S’s premium 7000 Heritage Firm Mattress, handcrafting it in Yorkshire with natural fillings and glue-free spring systems.
• Silentnight: Supplies several popular pocket-sprung and memory foam models in the M&S collection, such as the Memory Cool and Ortho ranges.
• Historical Partners: Brands like Relyon have also historically manufactured white-label mattresses for M&S.

We generally advise against pillowtop mattresses.

Because the topper is permanently stitched to the mattress, it cannot be turned over to allow the fillings to recover. Over time, sleeping in the same position causes the upholstery to compress, which limits the overall lifespan of the mattress. A much better long-term option is a traditional, fully turnable two-sided mattress paired with a separate mattress topper. This allows you to flip and rotate both parts regularly to ensure even wear, and you can simply replace the topper when it wears out rather than having to replace the entire mattress.

We generally recommend the Origins Comfort 1000 mattress for young children. It has softer medium upholstery layers that provide necessary cushioning, combined with a medium spring tension to ensure proper support while their bones are still growing. My small grandchildren sleep on this mattress, and everyone says that it is the comfiest mattress in the house.

If you choose to use a slatted bed frame, please ensure that the gap between the slats is no wider than 3 inches (7.5 cm) to provide adequate support for a pocket sprung mattress and to avoid damaging the spring unit. You would then need to cover the slats with an old or cheap duvet or blanket to protect the upholstery layers on the underside of the mattress from indentations and possible staining. If the gap is larger, boarding over the slats with MDF or Plywood will prevent the springs from settling in the gap and damaging the mattress.
