Replacing existing Vi-Spring zip & link bed

Chris & Val Spradbery asked
19th January 2017

My wife & I have a Vi-Spring Zip & Link Super King size Bed. On her side she has a Herald Supreme (Soft Springing) mattress and on my side I have a Baronet Supreme (Firm Springing) both of which we have had for a number of years.
Due to a water leak, which came through the ceiling and damaged the beds, we have been advised to dispose of the beds and we are looking to replace them with a similar Zip & Link arrangement (which we have recently used separately). However, we would appreciate any guidance you can give regarding replacements.
In my case I am 72 years old, just under 15 St and 6 feet tall. In recent years I have tended to sleep on my back due to some medical issues but frankly I still prefer to sleep on my side but have found the Baronet Supreme to now be a little too firm for me on that count and generally.
We have stayed in a Premier Inn a number of times, sleeping separately in what are either double or queen size beds. I have found these to be most comfortable.
I appreciate that the equivalent springing/construction in a double bed as opposed to a 6’6” X 3’ half of a zip & link king size or single divan is likely to be different, so we need to take that into account.
My wife’s side of the Zip and Link bed is a Herald Supreme mattress with softer springing, which she likes. However, we also have a double bed with the same mattress and she much prefers that one as it has a much softer feel to it.
In short, my wife would like a mattress, similar to her existing one, but with a softer feel. She is 67 years old, 5 feet tall and weighs just under 10 stone.
We look forward to hearing your advice and recommendations.

Hi Chris & Val,

Many thanks for your enquiry.

Whilst we do have a couple of models which are similar in feel to the Vi-Spring models you refer to, we do not mix and match models in our zip and link sets. The mattress, which best reflects the feel of the Herald Supreme is our Artisan Bespoke and this can have the spring tension selected to suit, which in Val’s case would be a soft. Having said that, the upholstery in this model will provide a firmer feel, which actually may not suit Val. The spring tension for Chris should be medium and the models that closely resembled the Baronet Supreme are the Artisan Naturals and the Artisan Bespoke 004.

As with the Bespoke, both these mattresses can have the spring tension selected to suit and both have different levels of natural upholstery, 85% for the Naturals and 100% for the 004, providing the same overall feel. Because, as we have said, we would not mix and match two different models in a zip and link set, we would suggest that you opt for either the Naturals or 004 in a soft and medium.

The Premier Inn mattress will have an overall medium feel to it and the only mattress that we make that has a similar feel to that mattress is our Origins Pocket 1500.

The mattresses in our Origins Range all contain man made fillings and come with a medium spring tension but you may need to add a mattress topper to give a softer feel.

We trust that the above is of some assistance to you, but if you require any further advice or guidance in respect of our products, please call our office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our advisors.

Kind regards.
