Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 or Artisan Naturals zip and link beds

R. Blake asked

I am 11 st. 5. and my husband over 18st. Our current pocket sprung/memory foam mattress is crumbling and causing back pain. The memory foam has made sleeping in summer very uncomfortable due to the heat retained in mattress. We have looked at the above beds and would appreciate your advice as to which may suit us best. We live in a small cottage and the beds/mattresses should get up the stairs ok, but the big square headboards will not and we will need to have the old type half the size with 2 wooden struts, I hope this is possible. I also note that you recommend mattress toppers but am worried that these will heat up too much in summer. We look forward to hearing from you.

Hello there,

Many thanks for your enquiry.

We do not make or recommend memory foam mattresses for the reasons detailed in the attached link. With your particular body weights, we would recommend a split spring tension, firm for your husband and medium for you.

Of the two products you refer to, the Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 has firmer feeling upholstery, whereas the Artisan Naturals has more of a medium feel in the upholstery, which is likely to suit you both. The Artisan Naturals is the best selling product in the Artisan range as detailed at the foot of this response.

As far as a topper in concerned, we would always recommend that you use your new mattress for at least 28 days before deciding on whether a topper is necessary. It can take this long for your bodies to get used to the feel of the new mattress and if you buy a topper at the outset, it may turn out to be an unnecessary expense.

Zip and link mattresses are available in king size and above and are primarily used where access is an issue, although they do also assist where disturbance due to movement in the night is an issue. If you do opt for a zip and link set of mattresses and bases, there are a couple of designs in the headboard range, which are suitable to have as two singles, but when put together look like a one piece. In this case there would be no need to opt for headboards on struts as the single boards should help with access.

We trust that this helps, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards Gary
