Keeping your mattress cool?
I am 5’4” and my husband is 5’8”. I weigh 10st 5lbs and he weighs 13st.5lbs. I am 62 and still get uncomfortably hot when next to man-made fibres. We are looking for a Super King Size mattress for our holiday home. He moves around a lot and disturbs me in anything smaller.
We would like a medium firmness, and for me to stay cool!
We don’t want to spend a lot of money for a mattress we might sleep on for 4 or 5 weeks of the year, although we may let it eventually.
I have been looking at polyester-free mattresses, but is this necessary? Would a feather and down topper work , to keep my thermostat stable?

Sorry to hear that you’re struggling being a warm sleeper. It’s a common complaint and we know it’s not much fun boiling in bed.
If you’re a warm sleeper then man-made fibres and foams are all far more heat retentive than say natural fibres. However, I also see you don’t want to spend a fortune. You’re going to struggle to find a polyester free entry level mattress unless it’s solid foam which will be really warm!
We would recommend for a medium feel you look at our Origins 1500 which has a 300GSM top wool layer but is primarily made of man-made fibres and the price reflects this. The Artisan 1500 contains 53% natural fibre and would be much cooler but is in a different price bracket.

As for a feather & down topper it may reduce the heat slightly but a synthetic mattress will always retain more heat than a natural fibre mattress. So it may not dissipate the heat quickly enough for you, it’s that trapped heat that’s causing an issue. So I wouldn’t put a huge amount of faith in it removing excess heat.
You may be better looking at an online retailer called Soak and Sleep and looking at something along the lines of Wool or Microfibres. This should hopefully alleviate the heat issues.
