What is the spring gauge in John Ryan mattresses?

Pocket springs do not usually have gauges associated with the spring. Only cage sprung mattresses are identified by the spring gauge – either 13g / 13.5g or 12.5g (Orthopaedic [Firm]). pocket spring units are identified by the thickness of wire used – 1.40mm / 1.50mm etc.

However, the thickness of wire used in a pocket spring unit can of course be associated with a gauge but it is so unlikely a retailer [or in some cases, manufacturers] will know the equivalents. Mass produced pocket spring units tend to use a catchall 1.5mm or so wire. Calico encased pocket units are built with a choice of thickness from soft (1.4mm) to Ultra Firm (1.9mm).

If you are looking at the lower end ranges then the spring thickness should be secondary to the fillings contained. Your indication that you want a ‘firm’ mattress raises my eyebrows a little. Knowing your body weight would indicate which mattress would be suitable for you – the spring unit is only half the story. The fillings used also has a bearing on suitability. Please do not try to second guess your requirements.
