Comparisons for Ikea sized mattress?

A customer asked

Hi there, I'm looking at getting a new bed, but the one that I have my eye on, will either be Euro Kingsize 160cm X 200cm, or Super Kingsize - 180cm X 200cm. I realise, that these sizes may limit my choice of mattresses. I'm looking for the kind of super-comfortable mattress, that I often experience on holiday - they have a kind of 'sink-in' feel to them, but are also supportive. The Hybrid 6 Pocket Laygel Soft-Medium mattress might be what I require and could afford - might this be an appropriate choice ?

(I weigh 13 stone & my missus is about 9 stone) I see that it has pocket springs - is this a mattress that should be turned ?

Oh yes, elsewhere, I've seen mattresses for sale, with a depth of about 18cm; yet I've seen others, up to 35cm deep. (For example,I've looked at the Relyon Marlborough 2000, which is 31cm deep). Is the depth of a mattress, a sign of its quality ?

Any advice/guidance would be much appreciated.

Hi Andy, Thanks for the email to us with your questions about mattresses.

Fingers crossed as the mattress experts we can help! IKEA have actually moved away from just euro sizes to UK standard sizes as well, we've written extensively about IKEA mattresses here for more information on that topic.

If you’re looking for a sink in and then support hybrid foams are excellent for this and your choice of the Hybrid 6 would give a medium support but with a soft/medium top layer with sink.

The lay gel used also springs back really quickly so if you need to turn over then the foam doesn’t get stuck in one position like memory foam does.

The hybrid 6 mattress is a one sided mattress due to the spring and foam unit but does come with a separate topper which can be turned and flipped.

We advise that with no turn mattresses you rotate them 180 and also flip the topper every month for the first year then less frequently after that.

This helps reduce settlement and evens out the initial compression and wear.

The depth of a mattress does to some degree indicate the quality, but only so much as anything under say 15cm wouldn’t be considered ideal but it depends on the components of the mattress more than simply the depth.

Our Hybrid 6 is quite a deep mattress given the FEPS pocket spring unit and the topper.

I hope that helps you Andy, if you need any advice please give us a call to assist you.
