I need to change our medium Vi-spring mattress which is on a slatted base. I had correspondence with you before about our slatted base and you advised putting mdf sheets on top of the cheap slats. This we did and it worked for a time – but my back is really suffering from the mattress, as I wake up with back pain instead of starting the day refreshed. Can you recommend a good firm mattress for our slats – king-size. Thank you in advance

It is difficult to recommend an appropriate mattress without knowledge of your body weights.

Placing the MDF sheeting on top of your slats will have made your current Vi-Spring mattress feel firmer and it may well be that this is the reason for you experiencing back pain. As such we wouldn't then recommend a firm mattress because this would only exacerbate the pains further.
We'd recommend a medium feeling model at most but we'd need to know your body weights, sleeping habits and preferred feel in the top layers in order to make a specific recommendation.
